A Polish woman recently shared online her frustration over a recurring and uncomfortable experience involving her Indian husband. In her post on Instagram, Gabriela opened up about the awkward assumptions people in India often make about their relationship.

Gabriela said that whenever she and her husband, Hardik Varma, visit new places in India, locals frequently mistake him for her tour guide or driver. “The most awkward moment whenever we come to a new place in India,” she wrote in the caption.

“We wouldn’t talk about it but sadly it is NOT a rare occurrence anymore. Basically every second shopkeeper or taxi/auto driver assumes that Hardik is my tour guide and in some circumstances my driver… Why?? Gabriela added.

I had same issues not exactly yours. But we laughed on it .. played along,” a user wrote. “Same thing happened to me when I visited My home town with my wife and family. Some Locals thought i was their tourguide,” another user commented.

“Stereotypes are strong in our minds unfortunately and I’m guessing people look at him and see a normal, middle class guy. Not flashy or modern. They assume he won’t be “good enough”,” a third user reacted.
