A man was in for a rude shock when he ordered food from an iconic café in Mumbai via the delivery app Swiggy.
Ujwal Puri, a photographer, took to X, formerly Twitter, to share photos and a video of his food order. Puri was taken aback when he discovered a “half-cooked” medicine tablet inside the dish, Chicken in Oyster Sauce, which he ordered from the iconic Leopold Café in Colaba.
The Leopold Café is one of the oldest Irani cafes in the city, which is frequented by local residents and tourists alike. The café was also one of the locations of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.
“My Mumbai Christmas Surprise ordered food from Swiggy from Leopold Colaba got this half cooked medicine in my food @Swiggy,” Puri wrote on X.

Netizens reacted angrily to the post and criticised the restaurant staff.
“Swiggy support is useless. They just have a support employee say we will look into this and we “assure” you we will take care to not repeat. Then find new mistakes to make every day,” a user commented. “Leopold’s food quality has been deteriorating over time. But this is a new low! What a way to ruin a Christmas meal,” said another.
“Leopold cafe is pathetic since last couple of years! Everything is unhygienic – place, food, kitchen, cutlery, staff, ambience and even furnitures. Please exempt Swiggy’s poor delivery boy. He was the messenger, don’t shoot the messenger,” wrote a third.
“Maybe this is their secret ingredient,” another person posted. “It is entirely the restaurant’s fault. Swiggy should enable a full refund but they cannot be held responsible for this. Rate the restaurant 0-1 on Swiggy, Zomato and Google with a photo so that others are forewarned,” another user suggested.
Leopold Café in 2023?
They haven’t been there same since they reopened post the 26/11 attacks.
This used to be one of my favorite spots for comfort food but I haven’t visited since 2009. https://t.co/VGTtka0S89— टणाटणी Tejas (@UnitedTejas) December 24, 2023
