Just when you think Mumbai’s local trains have shown you everything, something unexpected pops up, and this time, it was a commuter in an AC local train who left fellow passengers baffled by calmly standing in the middle of a packed coach with a fully open umbrella. The unusual sight was discreetly captured by another passenger, who later shared the photo on Reddit’s ‘r/Mumbai’ with the caption, “Today in AC Local.”

In the now-viral image, the man can be seen holding the umbrella, while those around him navigate the already-cramped space. The original post also included a humorous prompt: “Every day there is something new to see in locals. What interesting things you all have seen in local trains?”

The internet, as expected, delivered. One Redditor tried to make sense of it, suggesting, “I think he probably didn’t get enough space and time to close it without causing inconvenience to others.” Another shared an incident from personal experience, stating, “Trans harbour line. A man brought his own plastic chair to sit on.” Someone else joked, “Gotta protect oneself from that UV rays those tubelights are emitting.”

While it’s unclear what exactly prompted the man to pull out an umbrella inside an air-conditioned coach, the image has added to the growing collection of wild things people witness on the city’s iconic trains.

A few months ago, another commuter went viral for pulling out a foldable stool from his backpack and casually sitting on it during peak-hour chaos. He even flashed a victory sign when he noticed someone filming him, clearly proud of his jugaadu genius.
