Elephants are often referred to as gentle giants. However, when provoked, they have turned violent in several incidents of human-animal conflicts.
Now, a man’s callous behaviour towards a wild elephant has raised eyebrows online. Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda shared the clip and ridiculed the man’s attempt. “Anymore proof that elephants are gentle giants But wild can be Wild anytime. Don’t try these idiotic antics,” the IFS officer wrote.
In the clip, a man clad in mundu and shirt is seen walking towards a wild elephant. The elephant which stands on the roadside notices the man and moves backwards. The man raises his arms with folded hands, apparently in a gesture of praise and respect.

People in the background are heard asking him to come back in Tamil. He again approaches the tusker, which trumpets and is seemingly disturbed. The man turns back with his arms stretched and again faces the elephant, touches the ground, seeks blessings.
Since being shared on Thursday, the clip has amassed more than 40,000 views on Twitter. Netizens criticised the man’s act. A user commented, “Man was having a very very very lucky day !! Like absolutely lucky.” Another user wrote, “Any thing can happen.” A third user wrote, “Everything that looks heroic isn’t heroic, sometimes it a conflict of our belief and their security. We need to acknowledge, change and propagate as respect to their personal territory.”
