Delhi or Mumbai? When it comes to settling down in terms of work, the debate between the two cities, both with immense career opportunities and culture, never loses steam.

However, for a professional, a brief stint in Mumbai helped him realise that sometimes, being in a comfortable environment can matter more than chasing the unnecessary trend of leaving one’s hometown to make it big.

Deshav Kumar recently shared his experience of moving to Mumbai and why he chose to return to Delhi after just 100 days. “Well, after living in Mumbai for around 100 days, I did decide to move back to Delhi. And the truth is…it wasn’t about friends, language, or even the city,” he wrote in a lengthy post on LinkedIn.

Kumar explained that his decision stemmed from career needs and the realisation that stepping out of one’s comfort zone isn’t always the ideal path to growth. “But looking back, that logic wasn’t the best. See, people often romanticise the idea of stepping out of your comfort zone. We’re told that growth only comes when you do that. And yes, sometimes it’s true. But I realized that growth is not about being uncomfortable all the time,” he wrote.

He shared that Delhi gave him stability, which helped him focus more on his goals. “Delhi is where I feel rooted. It’s not that Mumbai isn’t amazing, it truly is. But my journey needed a base where I could focus, build, and scale without battling every little thing outside of work,” Kumar said.

Kumar ended the post saying, “Maybe the takeaway is this, Comfort zone isn’t always the enemy. Sometimes, it’s the soil you need to grow stronger roots before you branch out again.”

The post resonated with many users, applauding Kumar’s sentiment. “Completely agree with you. One must know what works best for them irrespective of their comfort zone. Glad you made the right decision for yourself,” a user wrote. “So true and also a place where you can just focus on yourself and be peace with yourself,” another user commented.
