Since the onset of the monsoon, several parts of India have faced disruptions and flood-like situations. On Tuesday, a massive landslide in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli blocked the Badrinath National Highway.

The viral video shows a large portion of a hill crumbling and falling onto the road, blocking the route. Reports said that the incident occurred at Chundu Dhar in Joshimath. The video also shows some tourists capturing the destruction on their mobile phones while others scream in panic and run for safety.

Sharing the video, an X user Priya Singh wrote, “The mountains are breaking on their own. The video is from Joshimath in Uttarakhand.”

Shared on June 9, the video raised safety concerns for tourists visiting hill stations and mountains during the monsoon. Reacting to it, a user wrote, “What is even more saddening is that people are becoming happy after seeing all this.” Another user commented, “Many incidents of landslides have happened in Joshimath before! But the government is not aware of this at all!”

“Development set foot on the mountain and the mountain collapsed and came onto development’s road,” a third user reacted.

According to news agency ANI, the Badrinath Highway was blocked last week too, after debris fell and piled up at two locations in Chamoli. The disruption left many commuters stranded.

Several roads in Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts were waterlogged after heavy rain. On Saturday, two tourists were killed in Chamoli district after being hit by boulders triggered by a landslide.
