As Bihar prepares for the elections, a heartwarming video of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav celebrating Halloween with his grandchildren has taken the internet by storm. Halloween has ancient Celtic origins and is widely celebrated across the world with eerie decorations, themed parties, costumes, and the popular tradition of trick-or-treating.

The now-viral video, shared by Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya, shows the veteran politician enjoying himself with the kids of his family. Seated comfortably, Yadav can be seen laughing as his grandchildren — dressed in ghostly masks and spooky makeup — try to scare him playfully.

Acharya is seen feeding her younger son, Iraj, while her father hands out chocolates to the children. Katyayani, the daughter of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, also joins the Halloween celebrations.

The video quickly gained traction, drawing a range of reactions. Several social media users hailed Yadav’s adorable moments with his grandchildren, while a section of users criticised him for celebrating Halloween. “I legit thought it was Voldemort,” a user wrote. “He called bad words for kumbh mela which is supposedly his religion , can’t trust man who defies own roots,” another user commented.

“After organizing Halloween for 15 years across the state, this dude is finally celebrating with family,” a third user reacted.

Meanwhile, the BJP Kisan Morcha’s official handle shared a split-screen video juxtaposing Yadav’s past remarks on the Kumbh Mela with the recent Halloween celebration clip, commenting that the RJD chief appeared comfortable embracing what they described as a “British festival.”

In February this year, Yadav stirred a major controversy after dismissing the Maha Kumbh festival as “meaningless.” Responding to a question about the massive turnout at the grand event in Prayagraj, the RJD chief remarked, “Kumbh ka koi matlab hai? Faltu hai Kumbh (Does Kumbh have any meaning? It’s useless).”
