In Kerala, hit by avian flu two months ago that led to the death of over 30,000 birds and the culling of more than 100,000 birds, a man was seen performing the emergency life-saving procedure of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a bird that collapsed in the middle of the road. Thanthi TV reported this unusual act of compassion that unfolded in Malppuram district with a caption in Tamil that read, “There is no sanctity beyond humanity - A person who saved a bird by giving it CPR - Viral video.” The news outlet reported that the man identified as Shajir was seen performing CPR on a Myna bird, by pressing his thumbs onto its chest to help bring the heart beat back to rhythm. After a few minutes, the bird regained consciousness, as per the report.
