A political row has erupted after the Centre sent out a dinner invitation for the G20 Summit in Delhi in the name of the “President of Bharat” instead of the standard “President of India”.
This has also given rise to the speculation that the Central Government might change the name of the country from India to Bharat, which has been denied by a Union minister.
The Constitution mentions both ‘Bharat’ and ‘India’ in the text and uses the two names interchangeably.
While many support the renaming of the country to Bharat on the grounds that India has colonial origins, others argue that it’s unnecessary and merely inspired by political vendetta.
The political uproar over India vs Bharat has inspired a series of memes and witty one-liners on X.

BRICS or Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa is a grouping that seeks to deepen economic cooperation between member countries.
People also joked that many national organisations and brands that have the words “India or Indian” in their names, such as Air India and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), will have to be renamed if the country goes through a formal name change.
