The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is considered one of the toughest exams in India, with over a million students appearing for it each year. Nitin Vijay, noted JEE physics teacher and mentor, recently shared his insights on the challenging phases of the preparation for the competitive test, highlighting that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is not the best engineering institution.
In a podcast with Prakhar Gupta, Vijay shared about several institutions across the world that can be considered to pursue engineering. “In undergraduate studies, there are some branches at Princeton that are very good. After graduation, Oxford and Stanford are excellent. There are a couple of European colleges that have some very good branches,” he said.
Vijay further emphasised that no institution can excel in every aspect. If we talk about India, Roorkee’s (IIT) Civil is very good. Some European colleges excel in Mechanical branches, as compared to the Indian system,” he added.
The mentor also shared a few tips for an average student to become a topper. “Daily introspection is important. Try to find out things that you are doing wrong,” he said. He noted that many students fail to recognise the problems that might obstruct their set goals. “Do self-reflection, introspection, and focus on what’s lacking in you (students),” Vijay suggested.
