A video showing a man claiming to be from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, pleading for help from Saudi Arabia has sparked concern online and prompted a response from the Indian Embassy in Riyadh.

In a post on X, the embassy said it is “trying to locate the person,” but noted that it has been unable to take further action as “the video does not contain any details about the location/province in Saudi Arabia, or contact number or employer details.”

The embassy also reached out to Delhi-based lawyer Kalpana Shrivastav, who first shared the clip, requesting her assistance in gathering more information. “@Lawyer_Kalpana please seek details from the source of the video you have posted,” the mission wrote.

Since the man identified himself as being from Prayagraj, the embassy has also sought help from local authorities in Uttar Pradesh. “As the person says that he is from Prayagraj district, @DM_PRAYAGRAJ @Sp_prayag @prayagraj_pol may also reach out to his family and advise them to write to us at cw.riyadh@mea.gov.in,” the post added.

The short video, which quickly went viral and has been viewed over 1.7 lakh times, shows the man speaking in Bhojpuri with a camel in the background. He claims he is being held against his will in Saudi Arabia and that someone named Kapil has taken his passport.

“My village is in Allahabad… I came to Saudi Arabia. Kapil has my passport. I told him I need to go home, but he is threatening to kill me,” the man says, visibly distressed. He then pleads for help: “Brother, share this video, share it so much that, with your support from India, I can get help and come back to India… Please help me, I will die; I need to go to my mother.”

Sharing the clip on X, advocate Shrivastav, who describes herself as a criminal lawyer based in Delhi, urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to take “immediate cognizance” of the matter. “Honorable Foreign Minister @DrSJaishankar ji, please take immediate cognizance, a resident of Prayagraj Handia Pratappur is stuck in Saudi Arabia,” she wrote.
