It’s rare, but there are incidents of autorickshaw or cab drivers returning lost luggage to their rightful owners. One such autorickshaw driver from Gurugram is winning plaudits on social media after he returned a passenger’s forgotten bag containing a gold chain with a diamond pendant.

Arnav Deshmukh, a LinkedIn user, has shared the heartwarming story. In a lengthy post, Deshmukh narrated how his friend, who was relocating, forgot her bag with documents like an Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank cards and a valuable: gold chain with a diamond pendant.

“Just to realise she forgot her bag in the auto which had her important documents like aadhar card, pan card, credit / debit cards and a gold chain with diamond pendant – gifted to her by the late Nani and Maa,” he wrote.

Deshmukh and his friend tried calling the autorickshaw driver through the UPI messenger, as they had paid the fare through a UPI app, but received no response.

Around 4 pm, they contacted the Gurugram police, who responded immediately and took them along the route in a police vehicle, checking CCTV cameras that might lead them to the autorickshaw driver.

However, an hour later, they received a call from a property manager who informed them that an autorickshaw driver, named Manirul Jaman, had arrived with the lost bag.

“Just as we were doing this around 5.30pm-6pm we got a call from the property manager saying the words we desperately wanted to hear: “Madam, ek auto wala aya h aapki bag leke”.

“Tears rolled over and a sense of relief got into our mind. Rushed back to find everything in the bag was in its place as is. This made us realise and made our belief stronger that God exists and humanity prevails even in tier 1 cities like Gurugram,” Deshmukh wrote.

The sheer act of kindness and honesty touched many on the social network. A user wrote, “Good to see, such people do exist.” Another user commented, “These kind of posts need more attention. We spread negative news for awareness, true. But talking more about these positivities will start a virtuous cycle. Kudos to both of them.”

“This act of kindness should be appreciated in grand fashion for many others to follow,” a third user reacted.
