On Wednesday night, two pet dogs in the Subhash Nagar locality of Khoda, Ghaziabad, were left severely injured after being attacked with a knife-like sharp object. The family suspected a group of neighbours to be behind the brutal act and the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and are investigating the matter, according to Hindustan Times.
Media reports quoted Sundar Singh, the distressed owner, recounting the horrifying ordeal. One of his pets needed 20 stitches, while the other required 18 after the attack.
The incident allegedly unfolded around 8.30 pm when his two daughters, aged 20 and 21, were home alone while the rest of the family was out for work. “There is a group of neighbours who often object when we take our pet dogs in the street, which is on the back side of their house. But they still object,” Singh was quoted as saying.
Singh also alleged that they came to his house and started verbally abusing his daughter by entering the house. As his wife returned from work, she asked their girls to go inside. The neighbours then allegedly pushed his wife. At this point, their two pet dogs repulsed their advances to save her.
Singh claimed that their two-year-old dogs tried to prevent the intrusion. “Then, one of the neighbours pulled out a knife and attacked the dogs. He inflicted severe injuries to both our pets,” he was quoted as saying.
“We rushed them to a hospital where one got 20 stitches and the other sustained 18 stitches. One of them has not eaten anything and it is likely he may not survive…I have filed a police complaint,” Singh said in the reports.
The police registered an FIR under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
