Mamaearth co-founder Ghazal Alagh shared a lengthy post on LinkedIn on April 24 saying the founders of Infosys, LinkedIn, Reddit, and Netflix do not believe in work-life balance, and said the definition of work-life balance is “misunderstood”.

“I bet you don’t know what’s common among the founders of Infosys, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Reddit. They all believe that work-life balance does not exist for people building businesses. However, I think the definition of work-life balance is misunderstood,” she wrote.

“The work-life balance debate arises from misunderstanding what it really is. Instead of viewing it as a rigid concept, we need to recognize that work-life balance is created, not found,” Alagh said in the post.

Explaining how work-life balance varies from person to person, she wrote, “Some might choose to balance it on a day-to-day basis. Someone else can choose to balance over a week by stretching on weekdays and chilling on weekdays, others can choose to balance over a week by stretching on weekdays and chilling on weekends.”

“The key lies in letting people define work-life balance on their own terms. This debate ends when people can choose what matters most to them at any given time,” she wrote.

The post triggered a discussion on the platform with professionals sharing their insights on work-life balance. “It’s refreshing to see a perspective that challenges the traditional notion of work-life balance,” a user commented. “Work-life balance to me is three words trying to sound important. Reality is work, and (personal) life coexist,” another user wrote.

“Think about it like pizza toppings. Some people love all the toppings at once, while others prefer just a few. There is no one size fits all answer,” a third user reacted.
