‘Mahi sir se meet ho gaya’: fan from Delhi cycles 1,200 km to meet Dhoni in viral quest

Although Gaurav Kumar could only catch glimpses of Dhoni initially as the cricket legend drove in and out of his farmhouse, his perseverance paid off in the end.

After a long journey and an even longer wait, Gaurav Kumar, a devoted fan of M S Dhoni, finally had his dream come true when he met the cricket legend in Ranchi. His story gained attention after an X user shared two side-by-side photos—one showing him after cycling nearly 1,200 km to Ranchi and the other showing him holding a Chennai Super Kings jersey signed by Dhoni.

The post quickly went viral, amassing around 3 million views.

The X user wrote about Gaurav’s incredible journey, “You must have seen this picture, I posted it on October 1 and this post has got approximately 3M views. Today you will be happy to know that Dhoni met Gaurav yesterday, Dhoni’s brother showed Gaurav around the farmhouse, and he also met Dhoni.”

Gaurav could not contain his excitement and posted a video on Instagram. “Finally, I am extremely happy that my long-held dream has come true. I got to meet Mahi Sir (MS Dhoni)… Unhone mere ko poora farmhouse ghumaya. Security reason ke karan photo, video nhi ho paya, sirf signature mila, toh yeh bhi mere liye bohot badi baat hai (His elder brother showed me around the whole farmhouse. Due to security reasons, I couldn’t take any photos or videos, but I did get his autograph, which is a huge deal for me),” he said in the video.

Gaurav’s journey to Ranchi had been an arduous one. Driven by his love for Dhoni, he cycled from Delhi, camping outside the gates of Dhoni’s farmhouse for nearly a week, hoping for a chance to meet the cricket icon.

Although Gaurav initially managed only to catch glimpses of Dhoni as he drove in and out of the farmhouse, his perseverance paid off in the end.

Gaurav has been sharing his story on social media, where it quickly gained traction, with millions of people tuning in to follow his quest. After finally meeting his idol, Gaurav expressed gratitude to all the “MSDians” who supported him, saying he was “extremely happy” that his dream had come true.
