We plan to export power to Nepal, final decision to be taken by Centre: Tripura Power Minister R L Nath

For the first time, all branches of the power department have united under one banner. (File Photo) The BJP-led Tripura government may soon export power to Nepal, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said in Agartala on Friday.
The minister made the announcement at the launch event of the 132 KV Gokulnagar sub-station in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
“We decided to launch a project of 800 MW pump storage at Chawmanu. A 400 KV sub-station will be set up at Suryamaninagar for power supply to Bangladesh. We have a plan to export power to Nepal. For this, a meeting was held today in New Delhi. However, the final decision would be taken by the Centre,” said Nath.
“We produce power from gas in Tripura. But gas is depleting slowly. However, the power demand is increasing with the advancement of modernisation. We (the government) are moving toward modernisation. It is needed for progress,” added Nath.
