In a Reddit post, the employee shared how a lie spiraled out of control after being spotted in the background of a viral Instagram reel from Coorg.

What was meant to be a relaxing weekend trip to Coorg turned into a workplace disaster for an employee who faked a stomach ache to take time off. In a now-viral Reddit post, the employee recounted how a harmless lie spiraled out of control after being spotted in the background of a viral Instagram reel from Coorg.

“Pretended to be on sick leave and got caught,” the post read. “Last month, I took Friday off for a trip to Coorg. Told my manager I had stomach flu,” the employee wrote. The plan seemed foolproof until a video shot at the homestay, showing someone dancing with the employee visible in the background, emerged on social media.

“Got tagged in a background reel of someone dancing at the homestay. Video blew up on Insta. 13K likes,” the employee wrote. Things took a dramatic turn on Monday when their manager shared the viral video with a pointed message, “Hope your stomach is better.”

While the employee still has their job, the fallout was immediate. “Thank God, I’m still employed,” they noted, “but no WFH requests approved since then. He doesn’t trust me now.”

The incident has since ignited an array of reactions around workplace trust, and the risks of mixing social media with sick days. “Wish the social media team would have noticed this for some tips,” a user wrote. “Lies are short lived. Never dot. Honesty is far better although unpleasant some time,” another user commented.

“This is hilarious,” a third user reacted.

In April, a woman quit her job after her boss demanded hospital photos, medical prescriptions, and even her GPS location, all during a family emergency. In the post, she shared that she had informed her team lead ahead of time about missing a scheduled seminar due to a relative’s cancer surgery. However, her manager reportedly disregarded her explanation and demanded that she justify her absence, even during the medical emergency.
