Dressed in a kurta and ‘veshti’, Indian chess star D Gukesh dances to Rajinikanth’s ‘Manasilayo’. Watch the viral video

D Gukesh, India’s chess star, made waves with his remarkable performance at the Budapest Chess Olympiad 2024. After his return to India, Gukesh is now dominating the social media scene with his video dancing to Rajinikanth’s hit song Manasilayo.

Dressed in a veshti and a red kurta, Gukesh attempted the hook steps of the popular song with his family and friends, all wearing sunglasses. Towards the end of the video, he could be seen walking to the camera and smiling. “Ithu yepdi iruku? (How are you?) With the GM himself,” the caption read.

Social media users thronged to the comment section, expressing their surprise over Gukesh’s dance video. A user wrote, “Bro casually dancing after winning Olympiad for India.” Another user commented, “We got “Gukesh’s dance moves” before GTA VI.”

“Never thought of seeing this side of Gukesh,” a third user reacted. “It was an ordinary reel until I saw the guy at back,” another user wrote.

India scripted history with its victory at the Budapest Chess Olympiad, with D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, and R Praggnanandhaa securing wins in the men’s final against Slovenia. The women’s team defeated Azerbaijan, earning the country its second gold medal.

Following the triumph, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the chess players during an interaction. In a now-viral video shared on social media, PM Modi interacted with the chess champions, including R Vaishali, D Harika, Tania Sachdev, Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi, and Praggnanandhaa.

The players also presented the Prime Minister with a chessboard, after which Praggnanandhaa and Erigaisi played a quick game.
