Amid the uproar around Coldplay Mumbai concert tickets, former BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover and author Chetan Bhagat joined the debate on paying a hefty amount to get tickets. BookMyShow opened the concert ticket window on Sunday, however, thousands of fans were left disappointed as they were directed to a long queue before the tickets sold out. In an X post, Bhagat critcised the fan frenzy around the British rock band. “On one hand we get figures of Indian salary percentiles and on the other there’s near mania for concert tickets. Who’s paying so much and buying all these tickets? What percentage of your monthly salary are people spending on these tickets? Some YOLO logic here? What?” he wrote. Reacting to the post, Grover said there’s “a lot of disparity on either end,” of the spectrum. “It’s a large country - and lot is disparity on either end - why is filling of 80k stadium surprising anyone ? 800k students go overseas every year - spending $50K on an average. Also now that most people who can afford have phones - things will fill up instantly as well,” the Shark Tank India fame wrote. Reacting to it, a user wrote, “We have under 25 people earning between 30k to 60k in our office. Ready to spend upto 15k on sneakers among other things. Also resell concert tickets and earn money.” Another user commented, “Tickets prices start at 2500. This is not really high for the average middle class urban population especially in Mumbai.” As a part of its Music of the Spheres tour, Coldplay will perform at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, on January 18,19 and 21, 2025. The band comprises vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer and percussionist Will Champion, and manager Phil Harvey and will mark their return to India after the 2016 show at the Global Festival in Mumbai.
