British rock band Coldplay is returning to India after nine years as a part of its ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour. The ‘Viva La Vida’ artistes will perform at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. The ticket frenzy for concert tickets caused a stir on social media as several fans failed to secure tickets after waiting in a long queue on BookMyShow.

Amid the hullabaloo, five-star hotels in the vicinity of the DY Patil Stadium have pushed their tariffs up to Rs 3 to 5 lakh for three nights, more than the tariff guests see during New Year’s Eve. Several hotels in Navi Mumbai are now fully booked for January 18, 19, and 21, the dates when Coldplay will be performing.

Taj Vivanta in Vashi and Courtyard by Marriott Navi Mumbai have zero room availability during those dates, according to MakeMyTrip, the Indian online travel company. Other luxury properties like Fortune Select Exotica in Vashi, part of the ITC Hotel Group, is charging over Rs 2 lakh for a room for three nights between January 17 and 20. Rooms at Regenza by Tunga and Fern Residency in Turbhe are priced at Rs 4.45 lakh for three nights and Rs 2 lakh for one room for three nights respectively.

According to the hotel booking website Booking.com, The Park Navi Mumbai, in Belapur, near the Nerul, is charging around Rs 25,000 and has no room availability during the concert dates.

On Sunday, BookMyShow opened the ticket window for Coldplay concert in Mumbai. After the overwhelming response from the fans, the band announced a third show on January 21. However, the tickets were sold out within 15 minutes, leaving several disappointed.

Following the potential online ticketing fraud, BookMyShow released a statement clarifying the website has “no association” with third-party ticket-selling platforms, urging users to not fall victim to such scams. “BookMyShow has no association with any ticket selling/reselling platforms such as Viagogo and Gigaberg or third part individuals for the purpose of reselling of Coldplay’s Music of the Sphere World Tour 2025 in India,” the statement read.
