A passenger travelling from Shirdi to Mumbai on a Vande Bharat Express train found dead cockroaches served to him and his family. The videos and disturbing photos of the insects in the daal have triggered on outrage on social media. The incident happened on August 19.

In the viral video, the passenger can be seen complaining about the same to the officials. Sharing details of the incident, he said his aunty alerted him about the cockroach in the daal while he was consuming the contaminated food. He further said his 80-year-old grandfather ate the same food. In an official complaint, the passenger highlighted that he found a live cockroach in the daal, a dead cockroach in the food, and the curd served to him was sour.

He also mentioned that the incident was confirmed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) manager. The post also shows the dead cockroach in the food.

After the incident came to light, the IRTC issued an apology and wrote, “Sir, the inconvenience caused to you is deeply regretted. The matter has been viewed very seriously. Penalty has also been imposed upon the service provider and officials have been deputed to thoroughly inspect the kitchen unit of the service provider.”

Reacting to the viral post, a user wrote, “When RailMin is always in denial mode why should catering service should be worrying? Nowadays reservation option is available excluding catering, let people opt that & carry own Tiffin. Passengers can throw them out of business.” Another user commented, “Most hopeless food in India’s most premium and prestigious train. Quality of food is very bad. No comparison of food can be done.”

This is not the first time that passengers have been served contaminated food on the Vande Bharat Express train. In June, a couple travelling from Bhopal to Agra found a dead cockroach in the curry served to them by IRCTC.
