Videos of a cobra struggling to get rid of a cough syrup bottle it swallowed has sparked chatter on responsible waste disposal and littering on social media. According to the post shared on X by Susanta Nada (@susantananda3), an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer as per his X bio, the incident happened in Bhubaneswar, and the snake helpline volunteers helped the reptile.
In the videos, a cobra is seen in a damp area as the rescue team tries to remove a syrup bottle from its mouth. The second video shows the cobra being freed with the help of officials, with people clapping and hailing Lord Shiva. Nanda wrote, “A Common cobra swallowed a cough syrup bottle in Bhubaneswar & was struggling to regurgitate it. Volunteers from Snake Helpline gently widened the lower jaw to free the bottle’s rim and saved a precious life. Kudos.”

Reacting to the video shared on July 3, which accumulated over 1,29,000 views, a user commented, “How many times must something like this happen before people take responsibility for disposing their waste properly & safely. Thank you for sharing & raising awareness Susanta.” Another user wrote, “This is why strict rules for not littering should be made specially in and around protected areas.”
“Humans have created so many problems for the other creatures on this planet. In fact, small percentage of the human population have created far more problems for their own species,” a third user wrote.
