A video has gone viral online showing an apparently frustrated BJP supporter breaking a television after the saffron party and its allies failed to achieve the 400-seat target that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had set for them in the Lok Sabha elections.

In the video, a man identified as Govind Parashar, “president of the Rashtriya Hindu Parishad (Bharat)”, can be seen tracking real-time updates on the television during the counting of votes, which took place on Tuesday. He then goes on to smash the TV on the floor. He picks up the TV and stomps it thrice to break it completely as others around him try to stop him.

The incident took place in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, according to the video posted on the X website.

“When BJP failed to get 400 seats, the president of Rashtriya Hindu Parishad (India), Govind Parashar, staged a drama of breaking a TV,” reads the video’s caption written in Hindi.

The video has got over 99,000 views and many social media users have flocked to the comments section. One of them wrote, “BJP people are experts in doing drama.” Another user commented, “BJP people always consider the public to be fools.” “Apna matha fod bhai (Smash your head, bro),” a third user wrote.

The BJP and its allies won 293 of the 543 seats while the Opposition INDIA bloc secured 233 seats. The saffron party won only 33 of Uttar Pradesh’s 80 seats, whereas it had 62 of them in the 2019 elections.
