A Bengaluru woman recently ignited backlash after she slammed Swiggy for assigning a delivery agent who couldn’t speak Kannada. In a post on X, the woman blasted the food delivery platform, asking them to “stop imposing” Hindi or English languages on locals.

Sharing the screengrab featuring the surname of the delivery agent, she wrote, “Bengaluru is in Karnataka or Pakistan @Swiggy ? Your delivery guy is neither speaking nor understanding #kannada ,not even #English. Do you expect us to learn his state language #Hindi in our land? Stop imposing things on us and make sure your delivery persons know #Kannada.”

The said post landed the woman in hot soup as several social media users slammed her. A user wrote, “Is Bengaluru in Karnataka or England? As far as I know, English wasn’t originally a cultural language in Karnataka.” Another user commented, “Delivery guy’s job is to deliver food. They come from all over India. Do you expect them all to learn Kannada for delivering food?”

“As long as the delivery is done on time who cares about the linguistic skills of the delivery boy !” a third user reacted.

Earlier, a Bengaluru resident sparked outrage after calling the non-Kannada speaking people outsiders and writing, “Bengaluru belongs to Kannadigas.”

“To, Everyone Coming to Bengaluru. You will be treated as OUTSIDERS in Bengaluru if you don’t speak Kannada or make an effort to speak Kannada. Write it down, Share it around. We ain’t Joking. BENGALURU BELONGS TO KANNADIGAS PERIOD,” the post read.

In January this year, the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike’s (KRV) protesters demanded the government implement a law that mandates that 60 per cent of each display sign in the city should have Kannada. The demand had led to a major debate on social media.
