A CEO and founder of a startup in Bengaluru was surprised to have received more than 3,000 resumes in only 48 hours for various job postings on the company website. Kartik Mandaville, founder of Springworks, a company that provides software products for HRs, wondered about the current situation of the job market seeing such a response.

“Received over 3K resumes in the last 48 hours just on our website – how bad is the job market?” Mandaville posted on Twitter on July 16. When a user asked him if it was unusual in the last 48 hours only, Mandaville said it has been like that for a month as they received more than 12,500 applications.

When someone asked if he was promoting the jobs on any platform, the entrepreneur said “nowhere as of now”, which is why he was surprised.

A visit to the Springworks website showed job openings for “permanent remote” role across various domains like sales and marketing, operations, product and tech.

“Was this a more entry-level job? We got a similar number of applicants for intern/entry-level postings, but not so much for senior/lead positions,” a user commented.

However, Mandaville replied to the user and said it was across the spectrum as some roles required more than five years of experience.

“Bet most of em might have applied blindly, hoping to increase their chances of finding a suitable job,” another netizen wrote.

“It’s very bad due to current layoffs in tech and AI being heavily used. There should be some protocol regarding this. So companies can’t lay off employee as they wish,” another user expressed.

“Pretty Bad. I remember going into a walk-in interview for an IT company in Delhi. Not a big name, one of my relative was leading the team conducting interviews & I was just a visitor. 700 people came for roughly 20 roles !! And that too for 2.5 LPA . They’re expecting 200ish,” another user shared.

“Unemployment is at peak, young people are desperate for jobs even if it has nothing to do with what they learnt in college. And this frustration will cause civil unrest or mass protest by youth,” another netizen said.
