Bengaluru, often called the Silicon Valley of India, is grappling with soaring rental prices and shrinking living spaces. A recent viral Instagram video captures a man giving a tour of a tiny 1BR (balcony-room) flat that rents for a staggering Rs 25,000 per month.

The video opens with the man standing in the centre of the room, emphasising its cramped size by stretching out his arms to touch both walls at once. He then lies down to further illustrate the dimensions, effortlessly reaching the opposite wall with his hands and feet.

He moves to the balcony next, which is so narrow that only one person can stand in it comfortably. He talks about the “perks” of living in such a compact space, saying, “There are many benefits to living in a tiny room—if you can’t buy things, you’ll save money since there’s nowhere to keep them.”

“Disclaimer: This video is for entertainment purposes only. The rent amount mentioned may not reflect the exact price of this flat but represents the reality of high rents in prime city areas. So, enjoy the humor, take it lightly, and keep smiling,” he captioned the video.

With over three million views, the video triggered a debate as several social media users were in disbelief. “I live in Bangalore, and this video is absolutely fake. It feels like some hidden propaganda—these days, anything negative about Bengaluru starts trending,” a user wrote. “You are living in a storeroom,” another user commented.

“Govt should set one minimum rent,” a third user said. “Move to Mumbai and you’ll be happy that Bangalore was better,” another user wrote.
