A day after Bengaluru bandh when vehicles kept off the roads, a massive traffic jam was witnessed in the city on Wednesday as people remained stuck on the roads for hours. Places such as the infamous Outer Ring Road stretch and surrounding areas, which house major tech parks, witnessed the worst of traffic congestions. Techies had to spend hours to cover a short distance.
Comedian and TV show host Trevor Noah who was scheduled to perform a show in the city as part of his ‘Off The Record’ world tour also arrived late. The show was cancelled later due to technical issues.
Many people shared their frustration on X. A man named Akhilesh (@akhileshutup) said he left his office at 3 pm and until 7 pm, he had just moved 300 metres.
I left my office at 3 pm today. Now it’s 7 pm. I’ve hardly moved 300 meters. Is this my @peakbengaluru moment? https://t.co/2YlMsEpqQy

Another man shared how he decided to order a pizza from Domino’s while stuck in traffic. He said the restaurant staff was kind enough to track their live location and deliver it to them while they waited in their car.
When we decided to order from @dominos during the Bangalore choke. They were kind enough to track our live location (a few metres away from our random location added in the traffic) and deliver to us in the traffic jam. #Bengaluru #bengalurutraffic #bangaloretraffic pic.twitter.com/stnFDh2cHz

#bangaloretraffic has no value for life. Ambulance stuck in traffic at a place for more than 20 mins at one single spot?!! Took me 4 hours to cover 15km. We are all petty people with no value pic.twitter.com/Lmqr7YMZV9

According to the Bengaluru traffic police department, multiple factors caused the traffic congestion in the region. The traffic on Wednesday was two times than on the normal day. Usually, the vehicle count on Wednesdays is 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh. However, on September 27, the vehicular count reached a whopping 3.5 lakh as of 7:30 pm.
The traffic department stated that this is the effect of yesterday’s bandh wherein a lot of employees attended work on Wednesday and tried to exit from their workplace at the same time in the evening.
