India, with its ever-rising housing crisis, has often been behind when it comes to innovations in the architecture and building industry. On Sunday, business magnate Anand Mahindra shared a video that showed how an innovative construction design transforms from a window into a balcony in seconds.
Mahindra wrote, “Frankly, the building industry rarely is a setting for innovation, so this is pretty impressive. And very much in line with new lifestyles that integrate with the outdoors. One more idea for you to consider when planning our buildings, @amitsinha73”.
The design shown in the video might seem too futuristic, but many architecture firms like HofmanDujardin from the Netherlands have already introduced these windows in buildings.

Commenting on Mahindra’s tweet, a Twitter user wrote, “This is a great idea for Mumbai builders as well because now days most of the rooms are balcony free”. Another person wrote, “Such steel structures maybe suitable to colder climes, not in hot sultry high moisture environments like we have in Mumbai, Singapore, Middle East, etc Regardless I would never recommend such a structure for my home at a higher level!!”
Many people also pointed out that even though the design of the balcony looked impressive, they were still sceptical about using it. Echoing this view, a Twitter user wrote, “This is cool and all but I wouldn’t trust standing on a glass bottom.”
