In 2024, Delhi Metro commuters left behind an array of valuable items, including cash, electronics, and jewellery, many of which were later returned to their rightful owners by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after proper verification.

Among the items recovered were over Rs 40.74 lakh in cash, 89 laptops, 193 mobile phones, and nine mangalsutras. The CISF also retrieved 40 watches, silver jewellery like anklets, rings, and bangles, as well as foreign currency amounting to Rs 24,550 in denominations such as US dollars, Saudi riyals, and Thai baht. Many of these belongings were forgotten near the X-ray baggage scanners at metro stations, according to official data accessed by PTI.

The CISF, tasked with safeguarding the Delhi Metro, also detected 75 rounds of live ammunition and seven firearms during passenger security checks. In addition, they recorded 59 suicide attempts within the metro network, tragically resulting in 23 deaths. While three lives were saved, 33 individuals sustained injuries.

Beyond their role in security, CISF personnel also extended support to passengers in distress. The force assisted 262 unaccompanied children, reuniting them with their families or handing them over to child helpline volunteers or local police. Similarly, 671 women found in vulnerable situations were helped by the team during the year.

With a deployment of 13,000 personnel, including both men and women, the CISF continues to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of millions of Delhi Metro passengers.
