Katelyn Peterson once worked as a salesperson, but it never truly ignited her passion. Her real love was writing, especially when it involved helping people “put their heart into words.” To focus on her passion, she quit her job, and at 37, she now earns Rs 7 lakh per month by writing wedding vows.
“I got into this business to help people put their heart into words,” Peterson, founder and CEO of Wedding Words, told CNBC Make It during an interview.
Since launching Wedding Words eight years ago, Peterson has crafted over 700 speeches for brides, grooms, family members, and bridal party guests. Her writing process involves video calls to capture each client’s unique story, followed by revisions and coaching on delivery.
It was in 2017 when Peterson realised her passion while helping her father rewrite her grandfather’s eulogy.
“He said, ‘This is exactly what I wanted to say. I just didn’t know how to put it into words,” Peterson told CNBC.
Initially, she offered her services for free in exchange for testimonials, and now she charges Rs 83,000 ($999) for full speech writing and Rs 41,000 ($499) for editing sessions.
When asked about the impact of Artificial Intelligence on her business, Peterson acknowledged that some competitors are using AI tools to produce content rapidly. However, she remains confident that AI won’t affect her brand’s long-term success.
“My clients value emotional authenticity and human storytelling, something I believe AI can’t replicate. The people that are happy using AI tools to write their wedding speech are not my clients… No matter what changes in the technical world, there is still a need for human touch and the human heart, and I don’t think that that’s ever gonna go away.”
