An American couple who relocated to India several years ago shared a touching moment on social media, which has now sparked outrage. Kristen Fischer, who frequently documents her experiences living in India, revealed that she and her husband have officially welcomed their fourth child, two-year-old Nisha, into their family.

Fischer shared that they first connected with Nisha, a child with disabilities, in September 2024. However, the adoption process was lengthy, and it took several months before they were finally able to bring her home. “Big news. We have been keeping this little secret for a while now,” Fischer wrote on Instagram.

“We started this adoption process 17 months ago and the day we have been waiting so long for has finally arrived! We applied for adoption in October of 2023 and got matched with her in September of 2024. Now, as of April 2025, the adoption is complete and she is our beautiful daughter!” she added.

However, the video did not sit well with many social media users who schooled Fischer for revealing the child’s video to the Internet. “She looks scared. Could have waited to post her. Really looks like you are doing this for content. I understand wanting to share your story and help others but posting her face on the internet makes it distasteful,” a user wrote.

“Stop putting children on the internet,” another user commented. “Why have you got her on social media? She’s not a ‘thing’. Please respect her privacy,” a third user reacted.

In another video, Fischer shared an emotional glimpse into little Nisha’s journey. In the post, she revealed that Nisha had been abandoned as an infant and spent the first two years of her life in an orphanage. She also shared that Nisha was born with deformities in both of her lower limbs.

“We decided to adopt a special needs child for several reasons. But mainly, we wanted to give a new life to a child that never would have gotten it otherwise. Nisha was born with bilateral lower limb deformities. But that fact is not what defines her. She is defined by her smile, her joy, her silliness, and her delightful presence. She deserves the world, even though the world has been so hard on her up until now,” Fischer shared.
