Two years apart, separated by war and captivity, Israeli couple Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or were reunited this week in a moment that caught global attention. The couple, who went viral on October 7, 2023, embraced each other after 738 days, as they were kidnapped by Hamas from the Nova Music Festival in Israel.
Or was among the 20 hostages freed on Monday as part of a truce deal between Israel and Hamas, ending his two-year captivity in Gaza. At the Re’im crossing, he walked into a hospital room and fell into the arms of his girlfriend, Argamani, who was rescued by Israeli forces in June 2024.

In 2023, the couple went to the Nova Music Festival to “celebrate life”. In a social media post marking the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks by Hamas, Argamani recalled the chaos of that night.
“Thousands of young people running in the fields, hundreds of cars trying to escape — all of us begging not to be murdered. October 7 was the last time I saw my partner. In captivity, I asked about Avinatan everywhere I went. I didn’t know if he was kidnapped or murdered, but I was afraid to know the answer,” she wrote.
The viral video from that day showed Argamani being taken into Gaza on the back of a motorcycle, screaming for help. The Chinese-born Israeli citizen spent 245 days in captivity before being rescued in June 2024. Since her release, she has become a prominent voice advocating the freedom of remaining hostages.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang penned a heartfelt letter to staff upon learning of Or’s release. “I am profoundly moved and deeply grateful to share that, just moments ago, our colleague, Avinatan Or, was released to the Red Cross in Gaza,” Huang wrote, as quoted by the New York Post. “After two unimaginable years in Hamas captivity, Avinatan has come home.”
“Avinatan — welcome home. Your safe return brings profound relief and joy to the entire Nvidia family. May this moment mark the first step toward recovery, renewal, and lasting peace — for all who have been touched by this war,” Huang wrote.
