Efecan Kultur, a popular figure known for his extreme eating ‘mukbang’ videos on TikTok, tragically passed away on March 7. The 24-year-old had been hospitalised for the past three months due to health complications related to obesity, Turkiye Today reported.

Kultur gained a massive following and garnered millions of views on TikTok. However, he was forced to stop streaming after becoming bedridden due to health complications, including bruising and difficulty in breathing. He last made a YouTube post eight months ago, and his TikTok feed featured its final mukbang on October 15. In that video, Kultur shared that he was cutting back on salt as part of his diet, the New York Post reported.

The TikTok star gained recognition for eating massive amounts of food in his videos, a habit that eventually contributed to severe obesity-related health issues. His declining condition left him unable to move on his own, and he could not visit his mother’s grave after her death last year, according to the Daily Mail. His health deteriorated, leading to hospitalisation, where he spent several months before passing away.

Last month, Kultur participated in an interview with Turkish streamer Testo Taylan. Throughout the conversation, the ‘mukbang’ star remained bedridden without a shirt, with his eyes often closed.

In July 2024, another mukbang star, Pan Xiaoting, died after her stomach tore while live streaming a 10-hour-long food-eating challenge, The Sun reported. Xiaoting gained recognition for streaming her marathon eating challenges, where she would often eat for hours on end.

The post-mortem revealed that her abdomen appeared visibly deformed and that her stomach was filled with undigested food. This suggested that her stomach may have ruptured, leading to the leakage of stomach acid and food into her abdomen, as reported by the Daily Mail.
