The changes in Canada’s federal policy on immigrant workers by the Justin Trudeau government last month have generated a massive hullaballoo. Amid the ongoing discussion highlighting the pros and drawbacks of the country’s international work permit system, a video of Indian students lined up in a long queue for waiter jobs in Canada is stirring up attention on social media.

The video, from outside Tandoori Flame restaurant in Canada, highlights the adversities Indian students go through when seeking jobs. Agamvir Singh, one of the Indian students seeking the job, shared that he found out about the opening through an online advertisement and was asked to appear for an interview based on his application. Sharing his thoughts on the chaotic scene outside the restaurant, another student highlighted the unemployment in the country.

“It’s so bad; it’s like everyone is looking for a job, and no one is getting a job properly. So many of my friends don’t have a job right now, and they have been here for 2-3 years,” the student said.

Didn’t see this number of youths lined up for a job at new restaurants even in India.” Another user commented, “It’s alarming to see 3,000 students, mainly from India, lining up for waiter and servant jobs in Brampton. This reflects the harsh reality of unemployment in Trudeau’s Canada. Those leaving India for dreams need a serious reality check!”

“I live in Brampton, and this tandoori flame is 1.7 km away from where i live. They do this every year for publicity,” a third user claimed. “Indian kids never bothered helping with serving let alone cooking or doing dishes at home, are now scampering to clean up for strangers in a foreign land,” another user commented.

The video comes amid the ongoing debate over Tim Horton’s hiring practices. A Canadian woman recently claimed that she was fired from a multinational coffeehouse and cafe after she criticised the management for hiring only Indians.
