Hakki Alkan, the founder and CEO of ShiftDelete—one of Turkey’s biggest technology news platforms—has sparked outrage after CCTV footage showed him hurling a flower pot at his employee during an office dispute.
The video, which has already been viewed more than 13 million times on X, captures Alkan throwing a pot filled with gravel at Samet Jankovic, the site’s editor-in-chief, following a heated argument.

Watch the video:

Jankovic, who has worked at ShiftDelete for four years, said he obtained a medical report and is now pursuing legal action, as per Hindustan Times. In a strongly worded post on X, he warned Alkan: “You will pay for this. If you delete those camera recordings, you’re not a man. I know they’re synced to your phone 24/7.”

Alkan, meanwhile, offered a different version of events. He admitted losing his temper but claimed he had only thrown a flower stem rather than a pot. In a statement published by Bianet, he said: “My brother Samet, who has made great contributions to our publication for 4 years since he first came, and I had an argument about the content that should be published, and this argument came to a point where we were mutually undesirable. During the argument, I lost control of my temper and threw the stem of a flower I was carrying at his desk, hitting him. Thankfully, he was not harmed.”

He also added that he handed over security camera recordings to investigators and expressed regret over the fallout: “It was sad for all of us that Samet and I had a brotherly relationship throughout our working lives and that it had come to this point. I apologize to my brother Samet and to you all for this situation.”

The clash between the two prominent figures at ShiftDelete has stirred debate online, with many viewers questioning Alkan’s behaviour and leadership.

Responding to the video, one user said, “Isn’t it an attempt to kill?” Another individual wrote, “I know both of them a little, I was incredibly saddened, even though it was really more than just an employee/boss relationship; they were like siblings, friends, I was surprised. Sometimes it’s good to set boundaries, you see. In my eyes, both are wrong, one provoked his boss, the other showed a tendency towards violence. Sad.”

A third person commented, “This workplace needs to be permanently closed, and this person should never be allowed to start a business again. This is just one of the thousands of incidents that occurred there, which we have witnessed.”
