Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in a video, announced the company’s decision to end third-party fact-checking on its social media platforms in the United States of America. Zuckerberg pledged to prioritise free speech following Trump’s return to the White House, announcing that Meta Platforms – the world’s largest social media company – would phase out third-party fact-checkers and promote more political content across its networks. However, the luxury watch he was wearing –– a rare Swiss watch worth nearly $900,000 (over Rs 7 crore, approximately) –– while making such an announcement caught the Internet's attention. The watch he wore on his left wrist was a Greubel Forsey ‘Hand Made 1’. Watch here: Here is the full video from Mark Zuckerberg announcing the end of censorship and misinformation policies. I highly recommend you watch all of it as tonally it is one of the biggest indications of "elections have consequences" I have ever seen pic.twitter.com/aYpkxrTqWe — Saagar Enjeti (@esaagar) January 7, 2025 Why is Greubel Forsey so expensive? Most Greubel Forsey models typically sell for between $150,000 (Rs 2 crore, approximately,) and $500,000 (over Rs 4 crore, approximately,) on the secondhand market. Known as one of the most expensive watch brands in the world, every component of the movement is meticulously hand-finished, adhering to the highest standards of traditional watchmaking. This includes the bridges, featuring polished inner and outer vertical edges, a distinctive main plate, and wheels with hand-polished bevels on both top and bottom (with 40 sharp internal angles on the five-spoke wheel). The partially open dial is highlighted by its hand-enamelled decoration. "Intended to be produced in only 2 or 3 pieces a year, Greubel Forsey’s Hand Made 1 is destined to become a new watchmaking landmark that unites both past and future. This new step towards the ultimate in fine craftsmanship is substantiated on the dial at 6 o'clock, where the inscription HAND MADE replaces the usual SWISS MADE," the official website of Greubel Forsey reads.
