In a heart-warming act of kindness, an Indian-origin man helped rescue a 20-month-old Sheepadoodle named Brooklyn, who spent nearly an entire day stranded on the icy surface of Lake Parsippany in New Jersey. The ordeal unfolded on Christmas Eve, drawing widespread concern from the community and local authorities.

Brooklyn, left in the care of a dog sitter while her owner was away for the holidays, had escaped and ventured onto the dangerously thin ice of the frozen lake. Despite numerous attempts to coax her back with treats, including pieces of chicken, the frightened dog remained out of reach. “The police officers were here all night, until about 11:30 at night on Christmas Eve,” recounted Kishan Patel, a nearby resident who ultimately played a key role in the rescue.

Patel, a dog lover himself, couldn’t stand by after hearing about Brooklyn’s predicament. “That made me want to help out even more,” he explained. “I can imagine what the owner must be going through.” Using his drone equipped with a dangling piece of chicken, Patel managed to guide Brooklyn closer to the shore. But as she approached, the sight of people waiting to catch her caused her to retreat back onto the ice.

As darkness fell, Patel’s drone proved vital in tracking Brooklyn’s movements across the lake. Police officers used weights to assess the ice’s stability, enabling one officer to carefully approach and scare Brooklyn just enough to drive her off the ice. Startled, she bolted to safety, eventually ending up on the porch of a nearby home, where she was finally secured.

Reflecting on the rescue, Patel expressed relief that Brooklyn was back home safe and sound. “I’d be heartbroken,” he said, sympathising with the dog’s owner. “I feel even more happy that the dog is safe and it’s back home.”

The video has gone viral and has struck a chord with netizens. “Awesome news! First thing from ABC in a while that put a smile on my face,” wrote a user in the comments.
