Guess which Indian gaali is the name of $23 cocktail in Singapore

This delightful find was tweeted out on Twitter, much to the amusement of many. Described as an “Enticing Flavours Of India, Creamy Chai Latte Shaken With Amaretto, Bulleit Bourbon, Hazelnut Syrup, French Cream And Honey Water”, the cocktail is priced at $23, exclusive of taxes.

In case you thought this much have been a mistake, much like many sceptical tweeple, here’s another picture of the full menu, along with the restaurant’s logo that seems to have been taken right at the table. Plus, the Facebook admin of Equilibrium gave us a confirmation that the restaurant does indeed feature a cocktail by that name.

Now that we’ve clarified the authenticity of the location, let us also assure you that this is not a case of ‘lost in translation’ either. When asked if the cocktail christening was deliberate, we got an answer in the affirmative. According to a statement from Equilibrium to the IndianExpress.com, “We are a bespoke bar and restaurant catering to mass affluent and based in Singapore, so our cultures and acceptance of humor are extremely different. We would not imagine doing it in your country but Singapore is a multi-racial country with little bias and a wider berth when it comes to humor. We saw the humor in introducing an Indian inspired cocktail with a tongue in cheek name. It was never designed for an audience market based in India, nonetheless the conservatives of that market. In UK, Ma******d is a common urban slang like how most imprudent Hokkien and Cantonese words that are commonly used in Singapore on a daily basis have become acceptable and not shocking to the mainstream. We hope that you are aware that most cocktails tend to be inappropriately named.”

To be fair to the restaurant, the drink does look very interesting in a chai cup topped with a cinnamon stick.
