Language is one of the most debated topics on social media, and a German influencer recently found herself at the center of controversy after mocking “Indian English” in one of her Instagram reels. In the video, she talks about how Indians use the word “expired” to refer to someone’s death, saying it left her in stitches.
“A prescription expires, not a person,” she says in the viral video that begins with a text overlay that reads, “India?! What is going on?”
She captioned the video, “Let me know in the comments if you also use ‘expired’? No judgement. Do you use the word ‘expired’ for someone who passed away?”

With eight million views and nearly two lakh likes, the video didn’t sit well with many Indian users, who criticised the influencer for mocking the country over its use of English.
“You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language where a house can burn up as it burns down, where you fill in a form by filling it out, and where a bell is only heard once it goes! So before judging any country, judge the language first!! Thank you,” one user commented.
“Stop laughing about it—your followers might get expired,” another user said.
A third user wrote, “Woman, go back to school… this just shows your poor vocabulary. I’m glad an Indian finally taught you a new word from the dictionary.”
