Fellow diner pays bill for Muslim family in the US as a beautiful Christmas gesture

Amid increasing fear among Muslim communities in the US and other regions across the world mounting from recent terror attacks, this random act of kindness reflects on how the community is not seen with a singular point of view.

Eslam S Mohamed, resident of Augusta, Georgia, went for a Christmas Eve dinner with his family to a local restaurant Olive Garden and received a surprise he may never forget.

In a December 25 Facebook post, Mohamed said when he asked for the dinner bill for the family of 12, he received the bill with a message on it “Paid. Merry Christmas. Beautiful Family.”

“Everyone in the restaurant was knowing that we were Arabs Muslims on the table coz of the language and the ladies were having scarves over their head (Hijab),” he wrote.

Touched by the gesture, he took to Facebook to share his appreciation. His post has gone viral and has been shared over 23,000 times. “I can’t express how this act touched our hearts. Among all the bad things happening to Muslims and the hate speech that the presidential candidate had made lately, there is still light in the dark, there is still hope within the frustration,” he said.

The presidential candidate Mohamed is referring to is Republican front-runner Donald Trump, who had proposed to ban Muslims entering the US, for which, he drew a lot of flak.
