Finnish Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas, 35, completed a 226.3 km ‘Ironman’ triathlon entirely at home using his backyard pool, peloton bike, and treadmill, transforming his living space into an endurance-testing arena. The gruelling event included a 3.9 km swim, a 180 km bike ride, and a full marathon of 42.2 km.

For the uninitiated, Ironman triathlon is one of the most intense exercises in which participants are expected to finish swimming, cycling, and running within a prescribed time limit.

Lifestyle expert Paul Ripke shared a video on Instagram showing how Bottas went about the intensive feat.

The video kicks off with Bottas waking up and diving straight into his pool. He methodically swims back and forth, completing 3,800 meters through countless laps. Without missing a beat, he transitions into the cycling portion. Wearing his shorts, he rides the peloton bike, logging an incredible 180 km. Bottas even eats his lunch mid-ride, staying fuelled as he powers through.

For the marathon, he jumps onto his treadmill, pushing through spasms and fatigue. “Body is starting to hurt. But I have to keep going,” he says in the video. By evening, Bottas completes the entire triathlon.

Another user wrote, “This is ridiculously impressive. Just goes to show the fitness level you need in F1.” A third user commented, “As someone that has done an Ironman this is the most insane way to do it.”

Bottas’s exit from Sauber

Bottas has been with Kick Sauber for over three years, but the team recently announced his departure in a statement. Sauber’s statement said, “After open and constructive discussions with Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, we mutually concluded that conditions to continue together could not be met so we agreed that it is time to part ways. We would like to thank both for the contribution they have made to the team in the last three years. They have been the embodiment of professionalism, using their experience and enthusiasm to support our growth.”
