British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has been making waves with his visits to India. After his electrifying performance with A R Rahman, the singer turned heads with his surprise performance of the Telugu song Chutamalle with Shilpa Rao during a live concert in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Sheeran sang the Telugu lyrics and synchronised with his guitar on the stage.
Sharing the video on Instagram, Sheeran wrote, “Obsessed with @shilparao’s voice for the last while, a real privilege to share the stage tonight, and learn a new language!” The now-viral clip begins with the Perfect singer welcoming Rao on the stage and singing Chuttamalle along with her while the audience cheer for them.

With nearly four million views and counting, the video sent a frenzy among music aficionados. “Ed’s efforts throughout the tour to learn and respect the culture is literally incredible,” a user wrote. “My man is speed running Indian languages at this point,” another user commented.
“Ed singing in Telugu wasn’t in my 2025 bucket list,” a third user reacted.
Sheeran also shared a behind-the-scenes video of himself learning the Telugu lyrics, with Rao helping as his dialect coach. “Obsessed with @shilparao’s voice for the last while, a real privilege to share the stage tonight, and learn a new language!” he wrote.
Composed by Anirudh Ravichander, Chuttamalle has been sung by Shilpa Rao for the movie Devara. Starring Jr NTR and Janhavi Kapoor, the action-drama hit the silver screen on September 27, 2024.
Meanwhile earlier Sunday, Ed Sheeran’s impromptu street performance in Bengaluru was halted by the local police. Several videos of the police shutting down his jam session at Church Street quickly went viral.
Following the incident, Sheeran shared a clarification on Instagram, saying he had received permission to busk and that the performance wasn’t unplanned. “We had permission to busk, so playing in that exact spot was planned, not just us showing up randomly. All good though. See you at the show tonight x,” he wrote.
