A young girl in China found herself stuck inside a washing machine after climbing in to “cool off” following a scolding from her mother for not finishing her homework on time. According to the South China Morning Post, the incident took place on March 30 in Jiangsu province, eastern China.
Realising she couldn’t move after getting inside the top-loading machine, the girl called out for her mother, who attempted to free her but was unsuccessful. In distress, the mother called emergency services for help.
Following this, firefighters arrived. The girl was reportedly crying in pain, shouting, “It hurts!” The rescue team decided to dismantle the washing machine, as pulling her out could have caused further harm.
Firefighters carefully removed the machine’s outer shell and, after covering the girl with a blanket, used hydraulic cutters to carefully cut open the casing.
The entire operation took 16 minutes, during which the rescuers reassured the girl to stay calm, the SCMP report said.
The girl was set free without any severe injury. Although it’s unclear whether she and her mother reconciled after the incident, the situation sparked a chatter on Chinese social media, with many finding the whole event “hilarious”.
A similar incident occurred in March when a four-year-old boy in Shandong province climbed onto a human-shaped statue at a park for an “adventure,” only to get his head stuck. Firefighters spent 10 minutes guiding him to safely reposition his body and free him without damaging the statue.
Earlier in February, a 12-year-old boy in Haikou, southern China, also got his head stuck in a fence while trying to take a shortcut home after school, The Sun reported.
