When it comes to intelligence wing of a government, it’s quite natural for them to work in the shadows. But United Kingdom’s spy agency wanted to give people on Instagram a tour of what is ‘behind the scenes’ at the bureau.

Two years after GCHQ stepped out of the shadows to become the first British spy agency on Twitter, it has now joined the photo-video sharing app and has gained over 4,000 followers in less than 24 hours since its debut.

Introducing their insta page on Twitter, the agency shared the page link and wrote, “because a picture can speak more than 280 characters.”

“Behind the scenes at the UK’s intelligence, cyber and security agency,” read the description on the app and it is not a hoax. However, in a sassy first post, the agency shared a photo of a sign stuck outside gated GCHQ headquarters which read ‘no photography’. The caption read: “Well this is going to be interesting… Follow us for a glimpse into our secret world.”

However, in a series of Instagram stories they shared about their work and interesting things.

They also kept the interaction open by asking people to tell them what they want to see. However, it carried the disclaimer: “We can’t tell you all of our secrets, but can offer you a glimpse.”

A GHCQ spokeswoman said the public account was designed to show how that the Cheltenham-based agency was working 24/7 to help keep the country safe. “Hopefully this will help dispel some myths and show who we are as individuals,” a Guardian reported quoted the spokesperson.
