A Threads post by @quitbytext with the screenshot of a mail a senior employee, possibly the top boss, sent his employees is being circulated widely on the platform, and has triggered a discussion on toxic workplaces. The caption of the post reads, “Nothing says you have to give notice. He must not understand that.” In the mail, the boss accused the three employees who resigned of not being “considerate,” and said employees can’t leave a company “high and dry all at once”.

The boss also mentioned that a new rule will soon be introduced, requiring employees to give a three-month notice while resigning, and explained this period is necessary because a similar amount of time was spent initially training each employee.

The boss doesn’t stop at that. In the mail, he also introduced other policy changes including a $6 per hour lowering of the employees’ base pay during the three months they will be spending serving the notice period, and that during this period, they will have to train employees who replaced them.

The boss also introduced 30 hours of “overtime” per week for other employees till new hiring is done and the new employees are “fully trained”.

The post prompted many to share their experiences with difficult bosses or managers. One user wrote, “People don’t quit jobs, they quit bosses. This man doesn’t see he is the problem. I quit my last job with a week and a half notice, they told me I could just make that my last day- so I did. They aren’t going to back you, you don’t have to back them.”

Another user shared their experience, writing, “I gave a month’s notice to my boss in Florida and she told me I couldn’t leave until they found my replacement. She was then out for two weeks. I had to go to my GM to tell him I’m leaving on the day I said, and he agreed.”

A third individual commented, “In a world filled with companies who don’t give a damn about their employees when they lay off believe this won’t work and isn’t legal. Prepare yourself to be in deep legal trouble, smh. It amazes me how companies expect loyalty they aren’t willing to give.”
