Carol Acosta, 27, fondly known as Killadamente, passed away after reportedly choking on food while having dinner with family at a restaurant in New York City. The news of her demise was confirmed by Acosta’s younger sister Khatyan on Instagram.

“I love you sister and I will always love you. I give thanks to God for giving me a sister like you with your big heart. Rest in peace my sister,” she wrote. She further thanked Acosta’s fans for sending support after the tragic incident. “To all the people who are sending me messages of condolences, I want to thank you a lot for being there and for your support. And thank you also for supporting my sister while she was still alive,” she wrote.

Acosta’s family released a statement which read: “On January 3, our dear Carol, better known as Killadamente, passed away. The Acosta Gonzalez family shares its pain with everyone who knew her.” The statement also praised her contributions to the lives of others, stating that she “managed to help thousands of people through her work,” the New York Post reported.

With 6.7 million followers on Instagram, Killadamente created a niche for herself with videos on fashion, lifestyle, and motherhood. She never shied away from sharing her struggles with her followers, and opened up about her battle with anxiety and depression.

In one of her videos on self-acceptance and healing, Acosta said, “I repented, I died, I was born again. And my brothers and sisters, I am now proudly free from sin. God forgave me and it feels so good to be free from the anxiety and depression that used to force me to take drugs and do things I didn’t want to do.”

A GoFundMe page was set up to raise funds for her funeral expenses.
