From Japan’s Ambassador to India Hiroshi Suzuki gorging on pani puris to Indian-origin contestant impressing MasterChef Australia judges, the beloved Indian street food has gained popularity worldwide. A pani puri stall on the streets of Minneapolis, Minnesota, US, is rare and a viral video suggests the street food is having its day.
The video of an Indian-origin owner of Curry Corner, a restaurant and bar, selling pani puris to foreigners free of cost is doing rounds on the Internet. The video opens with the man with his stall outside his eatery Curry Corner and shouting ‘Pani Puri, Indian street food’. The camera captures the reactions of many foreigners as they relish the street food for the first time. After eating the pani puris, passersby called the dish ‘refreshing’, ‘delicious’ and ‘really good’.
The restaurant shared the video on the handle Curry Corner on Instagram with the caption, “They were left SPEECHLESS. Come by Curry Corner in Minneapolis for Dine in or Take out”.

The video garnered over 4 million views on Instagram as social media users swamped the comment section. Reacting to it, a user commented, “Beware!! You can detox from any Drugs…..But can’t detox yourself from Panipuri. It’s highly addictive.” Another user commented, “This the way they made cheapest dish PANI PURI more expensive all over the world.”
“But, did you also give them the complementary sookha puri? It should be illegal to sell Pani Puri without a complementary sookha puri,” a third user reacted.
In April, MasterChef Australia contestant Sumeet Saigal hogged headlines as she impressed the show judges with a plate of pani puri. The viral video showed Saigal explaining how to eat pani puris to the judges. She asked them to break the puris, fill it with potato, add mint coriander and date-tamarind chutney, and then add the spicy water to it.
