Leading Startup Cities India 2024: India, presently on a fast track to becoming the third-largest global economy by 2030, has witnessed remarkable growth in entrepreneurship, ascending to become the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem in 2024.

The country’s startup ecosystem has experienced exponential growth, expanding from approximately 50,000 startups in 2018 to over 140,000 DPIIT-registered startups in 2024.

Notably, it adds a greater number of startups per day than any other country and has witnessed the addition of one unicorn every 20 days over the last seven to eight years.

Remarkably, the most valuable companies in the list have a staggering valuation of INR 36 lakh crores collectively, registering a 20% growth compared to last year, according to a recently released Hurun India report.

In its Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2024, Hurun has listed the top startup cities in India based on leading self-made entrepreneurs residing there as of 2024.

Hurun’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2024 come from 44 cities across India, with Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gurugram, and Delhi emerging as significant hubs of innovation, being home to the largest number of companies.

With these three cities accounting for 57% of India’s top 200 self-made entrepreneurs of the millennia in 2024, most of these founders are predominantly based in Bengaluru, where 98 of them reside, followed by Mumbai with 73, New Delhi with 51, and Gurugram with 34.

Meanwhile, Delhi and Mumbai follow closely, occupying the 24th and 37th positions, respectively, among the world’s top 40 startup ecosystems.
