The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) recently unveiled its brand-new unified app, SwaRail, for Android and iOS devices. This app consolidates multiple IRCTC services into a single platform, offering an improved user experience and enhanced ease of use. Currently, in beta, SwaRail integrates almost all the consumer-facing digital services provided by IRCTC under one umbrella. A refreshing UI overhaul I was able to download and install the iOS version of the SwaRail app via the TestFlight platform, as the early access programme on the Play Store was full. Unlike the IRCTC Rail Connect app, which looks basic and unintuitive, the SwaRail app has a modern design and is easy to navigate. The SwaRail ‘SuperApp’ has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and is set to replace Rail Connect, UTS Mobile, and several other IRCTC apps, bringing all services under one roof. Seamless login and secure access If you already have an IRCTC account, you can use the same credentials to log into the SwaRail app. Any active bookings under your account will automatically reflect in the app. Indian Railways launches ‘SwaRail’ SuperApp for Beta Testing – final public launch after trials: A One-Stop Solution for Seamless Railway Services 🔘SwaRail’ SuperApp Integrates Multiple Railway Services, Reduces App Clutter and Space Usage 🔘‘SwaRail’ SuperApp Provides… pic.twitter.com/gCppNL3DA7 — PIB India (@PIB_India) February 1, 2025 On iPhone, the SwaRail app can be accessed via Face ID authentication, similar to most modern banking apps. I believe the same functionality will be available on Android, allowing users to unlock the app securely using fingerprint or face recognition. Clean and clutter-free home page The home page of the SwaRail app is simple, clean, and well-organized, with options to book reserved, unreserved, and platform tickets with just a click. Additionally, the app features its own ‘R-Wallet’, which will be particularly useful for frequent travellers who book rail tickets regularly. Currently, the SwaRail app is ad-free, further enhancing its usability and aesthetic appeal. I also appreciate the inclusion of interesting facts about Indian Railways on the home page. Comprehensive features and services Beyond ticket booking, the SwaRail app provides a range of useful features: Train tracking and search – Check real-time train running status and availability. Food ordering – Order meals on the go through the app. Refund requests – Easily file refund claims for cancelled tickets. Lodging complaints – Report any unsatisfactory railway services directly through the app. Easy modifications – Users can download tickets, change boarding stations, and book return journey tickets effortlessly. Booking history – Access details of past, completed, and cancelled bookings within the app. Multilingual support and profile customisation Currently, the SwaRail app supports English and Hindi, and additional Indian language support is expected in future updates. The app also features a comprehensive profile section, allowing users to set their berth and meal preferences. Additionally, users can digitally verify their accounts using various methods, including Aadhaar authentication. A comprehensive railway app Overall, the SwaRail app is a major upgrade compared to the Rail Connect app. It is modern, feature-rich, and user-friendly, making railway travel more convenient for passengers. While still in beta, SwaRail may undergo further enhancements before the official launch. However, as it stands, it is already shaping up to be a promising all-in-one solution for railway travellers in India.
