From being a symbol of authenticity to something that anyone with Rs 900 can get, the perception of Twitter’s blue tick has changed tremendously under Elon Musk’s leadership.
With the ever-changing policies, the latest update doesn’t even let users know if the blue tick is part of a legacy verification or the Twitter Blue subscription. The same also goes applies to the Meta-owned social media platform, where, users can now buy a blue tick via the Meta Verified program for Rs 1,450 a month.
“This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue or is a legacy verified account.” is the current definition of Twitter’s blue tick mark.
According to the latest report by News Guard, since the introduction of Twitter Blue, false claims have flooded Twitter by Blue subscribers. Because of that, a lot of legacy Twitter verified accounts are trying to get rid of their blue tick.
If you are also one of those users, here is how you can disable or remove a blue tick from your Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts.
One of the easiest ways to remove the blue tick from your Twitter account is by subscribing to Twitter Blue. While it does sound a bit confusing, Twitter gives the option to subscribers to either hide or show their blue tick.
Several reports do claim that users who have discontinued the Twitter Blue subscriptions still have a blue tick on their account.
Another possible way to remove the blue tick from the legacy verified Twitter account is by submitting a name change request, where, Twitter itself will remove the Blue Tick if the details don’t match.
While there is no setting to enable or disable the verification badge on Meta’s Facebook and Instagram, the Meta Verified users can stop paying for the subscription, which will automatically remove the verification badge.
Instagram offers a much easier way, where, users can go to settings, tap on the verification option and then click on remove verification to disable the check mark.
Similarly, the legacy verified accounts have to send a request to Meta for the removal of the verification badge from Instagram and Facebook.
